Eight people, aged 33 to 85, were taken to hospital after an accident involving a car and a bus in Hougang on Tuesday.

The police said they were alerted to the accident at the junction of Hougang Avenue 4 and Buangkok Green at 10.35am.

Chinese-language daily Lianhe Zaobao reported on Tuesday that the accident involved a white car and a service 43 bus.

The front bumper of the double-decker bus and the left side of the car were damaged.

In response to queries from The Straits Times, a spokesman for Go-Ahead Singapore said on Wednesday: “The bus was going straight at the junction while the traffic light signal was green and was unable to avoid a collision with a private vehicle making a discretionary right turn.”

He added: “We are in contact with the affected passengers to offer our full assistance, and continue to fully cooperate with all relevant authorities in their investigations.”

The police said all eight people were conscious when they were sent to hospital and that investigations are ongoing.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said two people were taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and six to Sengkang General Hospital.

One commuter, who was on the bus’ upper deck, told Zaobao that she saw commuters on the lower deck injured, including an elderly person who had fallen and was bleeding.
