Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said that the government is carrying out an investigation into whether the BNP had any connection to explosions in Gulistan and Chittagong’s Sitakunda, and a recent Rohingya camps fire, as they failed in their movement.

“Following instructions of the prime minister, these are being looked into in-depth,” said Quader.

He was speaking in a joint meeting of central leaders of the party at the central office of the Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue on Wednesday morning.

Obaidul Quader said that while the prime minister was outside of the country, some unexpected incidents happened in the country. Whether they were accidents or sabotage, it is being thoroughly investigated by the government on the instructions of the prime minister.

“No need to worry about this,” he said.

Referring to a statement of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, he said: “Mirza Fakhrul suddenly made a statement. He termed such a series of incidents mysterious. We agree with him. Such accidents are mysterious in the country at this time. We have to find out what is inside this mystery.”

The senior Awami League leader said: “Those who have failed in the movement, we should also look into whether they are looking for sabotage, whether they are walking on the path of sabotage. It is being investigated whether any person or organization or group is behind these mysterious incidents.”

Expressing condolences over the recent fire and explosions, he said that if the BNP fails in the movement, they involve themselves in “fire terrorism,” adding that: “We are careful about this.”
