Former Bangladesh one-day international captain Tamim Iqbal decided to withdraw his retirement after meeting prime minister Skeikh Hasina on Friday afternoon, Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan told the media after the meeting.
The 34-year old batsman, who announced his sudden retirement from all forms of international cricket on Thursday, told reporters after meeting Hasina at Gono Bhaban.
Tamim was accompanied by Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan and former captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza in the meeting.
‘The honourable prime minister invited me to her residence this afternoon. We had a long discussion. She has instructed me to return to cricket. I am withdrawing my retirement. I can say no to everyone but not the most important person of the country. Mashrafe bhai called me while Papon bhai was here too. They were big factors [changing my decision],’ Tamim told the reporters after the meeting.
‘The prime minister has adviced me to take a break for a month and a half to complete my treatment and take mental preparation to return. I will start playing after the break.’
